The Food and Drug Administration’s approval of cloned animals and their offspring for human consumption is irresponsible, and a slap in the face to Congress and consumers everywhere.� There are widespread concerns about cloning’s impact on animal health and insufficient research on eating meat or drinking milk from cloned animals.� There’s a solution to this problem: Congress needs to ban food from clones and their offspring from entering our food supply.� Write your members of congress now, and tell them to ban cloned food!��

We don’t know whether or not it is safe to eat meat or drink milk from cloned animals. To make matters worse, the government has said that cloned food will not have to be labeled, so consumers will have no way to avoid these controversial experimental foods. In October 2005, a poll conducted for the Pew Initiative found that 66% of adults are “uncomfortable” or “strongly uncomfortable” with animal cloning.� In fact, in six major polls, a majority of people in each survey were against animal cloning.

In addition to disregarding public concerns, the FDA is also blatantly disregarding directions from Congress. Just last month, the Senate passed the farm bill and the entire Congress passed the omnibus appropriations bill.� Both included provisions urging FDA to do more studies on cloning before final approval was given.� But rather than listening to Congress and acting in the public interest, the federal agency is caving in to industry pressure.� Now it’s time for Congress to take a strong position to protect consumers.� Contact your Senators and Representative now:
